Full day programmes

Track of the Tiger presents an array of full day tours and activities in and around Chiang Mai. On all tours, guests are transported by air conditioned vehicle and accompanied by an English speaking guide. Prices provided are per person.

Doi Inthanon (CNX 011)

Following an early 7am start, you will travel to a National Park situated on Thailand’s highest mountain (Doi Inthanon) at 2,565 metres above sea level. The mountain is named after the last sovereign of Chiang Mai and is home to a diverse array of flora, fauna and 362 species of birds. The temperature remains cool on the mountain year round, making it a welcome retreat for tourists and residents of Chiang Mai alike. As you climb the peak you will pass dense forest, waterfalls, streams, campsites, the National Park Headquarters and more.

Additionally, the twin Chedi’s further up the mountain are stunning and were constructed a little more than 20 years ago to honour the King and Queen of Thailand. Further still, nature trails are available providing a chance to stretch your legs and learn a little about the local environment.

Chiang Rai, Mae Salong and hill tribes (CNX 012)

Early departure from your Chiang Mai hotel for a short 40-minute flight to the northern city of Chiang Rai, arriving there at 0930 hrs. Board an air-conditioned mini bus escorted by an English- speaking tour guide for a short ‘whistle stop’ tour of Chiang Rai city itself, the second largest city in the north. The guide will point out and provide information on attractions as you go. Head north along the Mae Sai road turning off to commence the ascent of Doi Mae Salong.

Make a roadside stop to browse around a Yao hill tribe market, then continue up to the crest of the range and the ex-Kuomingtong (Chinese renegade army of 1949) stronghold of Ban Mae Salong. Enjoy lunch in a local restaurant, then browse the exotic market followed by a visit to the stunningly beautiful modern-style temple (Wat Santikhiri) with its panoramic views of the valley below.

Note: The 3 km access road is extremely steep and the minibus can only ferry 3 or 4 people up to the temple at a time. Depending on group size, guests may therefore be split into two groups during the visit to Ban Mae Salong: group 1 - lunch, market, temple; and group 2 - temple, lunch, market.

Reboard the vehicle and descend into the Fang valley stopping at a classic Akha hilltribe village, then the Shan village of Ban Mae Mok Cham, where paa toong - sarong-like garments - are woven for sale by the village women. Continue to Maekok River Village Resort for an afternoon tea or coffee stop before continuing on by road to Chiang Mai.

The Golden Triangle and hill tribes (CNX 013)

Early departure from your Chiang Mai hotel for a short 40-minute flight to the northern city of Chiang Rai, arriving there at 0930 hrs. Board an air-conditioned mini bus escorted by an English- speaking tour guide for a short ‘whistle stop’ tour of Chiang Rai city itself, the second largest city in the north. Continue for very scenic drive through Chiang Saen & the Golden Triangle, stopping at the Opium Museum. Then, drive to Mae Sai where you are given the opportunity to browse the market before taking lunch in a local restaurant.

After lunch, drive to Mae Chan, turning off along the shortcut over the mountains into the Fang valley. Visit the Lisu villlage of Laota where the shaman is normally available to demonstrate his skills on a range of authentic Lisu musical instruments. Sip Chinese tea on the verandah of his house whilst listening to plaintive flute music. Drive the short distance to a delightful Shan village, Ban Mae Mokcham, for a short walk around this neat and well run village where the women weave cloth and make “paa toong” - sarong-like garments. The village also makes "saa" paper from mulberry bushes.

Travel on to Maekok River Village Resort for afternoon tea and then continue from the resort to your hotel in Chiang Mai arriving at approximately 2030 hrs.

1001 Things to see and do in Chiang Mai (CNX 014)

Launching when ready, this new publication by Track of the Tiger follows the success of Chiang Mai’s Shopping Secrets and will promote the many unique attractions of Chiang Mai that could be classified as ‘off the well-beaten track’. In the interim, if you have a special interest that you would like to pursue, or a yearning to see places that others do not get to, contact us and we will work with you to put together a personalized programme that achieves your goal.
