Pang Soong Lodge Outdoor Education and Research Centre
Introduction.
The Pang Soong Lodge, Outdoor Education & Research Centre is a privately owned 10 hectare property located in pristine forest, only 50kms (45 minutes from the city) and easily accessed along good roads.
Located at 1000 m.a.s.l. in the cool mountain air of a gorge straddling the Mae Lai stream, it is bordered on one side by a national park, and on the other by the extensive community forest of the Khun Muang peoples of the Ban Mae Lai group of villages.
The property is the cornerstone of the 2006 SKAL Ecoutourism Award Winning entry aimed at forming an alliance between the private sector and the local community to develop a sustainable, equitable and educational ecotourism product of world class standard.
They main attraction is the Pang Soong Nature Trails a network of interpretive trails, of varying degrees of difficulty, that follow gullies and traverse ridges, take you through pristine forest, plantations of tea and coffee, around and over waterfalls, through streams and across bamboo or fallen tree trunk bridges.
The trails themselves are owned by the village community, designed by Track of the Tiger T.R.D. for their niche markets, and built with donor funding, and a combination of volunteer and village labour.
The village derives income from trail entrance fees which are paid into a community fund that they use as determined by themselves (see the VWB website for detail.) Other villagers are employed in ecotourism and at the lodge itself, and a programme is well underway to ensure that the future management of the ecotourism attraction comes from amongst the village children who are being direct assistance in pursuing a programme of Eco-English studies.
Pang Soong Lodge, Outdoor Education & Research Centre is dedicated to hosting Track of the Tiger T.R.D clients from the following niche markets:
Ecotourism.

Adventure Racing.
